When I assumed leadership of CSL in 2008, it was your typical “box pusher” in the technology industry, firmly entrenched within the Maltese market. Managed and owned by the M.Demajo Group, CSL had already established itself as a dominant player since the 1990s, employing between 80 and 90 individuals.

However, the dynamics of the technology landscape were rapidly changing. With Malta’s accession to the European Union in 2004, the market opened up, presenting opportunities and challenges for companies like CSL. Simultaneously, global tech giants such as Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft were undergoing significant transformations, foreshadowing the technological innovations that would reshape the industry.

Embracing Change and Growth

My personal journey intertwined with CSL’s transformation. Having left Malta in 1993 with a background in economics and accounting, I pursued opportunities abroad, including a stint at IBM in America. My time at IBM exposed me to the cutting edge of technology and the prowess of institutions like MIT and Harvard, leaving an indelible mark on my perspective.

The global financial crisis of 2008 marked a pivotal moment, coinciding with my introduction to the M.Demajo Group. Recognising the potential in CSL, despite its challenges, I embarked on a journey to revitalise the company, leveraging my experience and vision for growth. Transforming CSL demanded unparalleled dedication and resilience as CSL pivoted from being a mere hardware provider to offering comprehensive cloud services.

Collaboration and Partnerships

While CSL’s journey exemplifies resilience and innovation, it underscores the importance of collaboration and partnerships. Melita Business, a telecommunications company, emerged as a crucial ally in CSL’s success story. Beyond providing connectivity services, Melita Business’s partnerships with leading telcos in mainland Europe such as Talia Sonera, Cogent, Hurricane Electric, and Cable and Wireless affects the quality of service provided for businesses and ensures CSL’s ability to deliver seamless and reliable services to its customers.

A Future of Possibilities

CSL’s journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, vision, and collaboration in navigating challenges and seizing opportunities in the ever-evolving technology landscape. Looking ahead, we remain committed to innovation, collaboration, and delivering unparalleled value to our customers.
